In 2019 we, Klaas, Marianne and Pei Pei, moved to France to renovate an old home at an abandoned quarry in Calviac en Perigord. Our plans started to take shape in the spring of 2018 when we viewed houses in several regions in France. We chose this location because of its unique setting and the possibilities it offers to explore the Perigord Noir.
Our chambres d’hotes lies in the hills of Calviac en Perigord. Peaceful and with breathtaking views, yet not far from the medieval town of Sarlat where there is always something to do.
The house had been abandoned for 14 years when we bought the property. Everything had to be renovated to make it an appealing accommodation. We managed to maintain the original character of the house, and our guests can now stay in comfortable rooms with modern bathrooms.
We left behind our busy jobs to pursue this adventure, which was something entirely new to us. Klaas worked as a planner and consultant for a large company in Amsterdam. And I, Marianne, worked as a botanical photographer for 15 years at a professional photo studio. We both had challenging jobs we enjoyed, but couldn’t let go of our dream of owning and running a B&B.
